Wrap Up
The last day in Key Largo we spent trying to soak up as much sun as we could. We went to the pool in the hotel complex because we hadn’t checked that out yet and because the little beach there was full. They had a little snack/drink stand there and we ordered frozen rum runners and read our books. I finished mine which was great.
I had found a spot off to the corner with an umbrella because it was a sunny day and we wanted to chill. Once I finished my book though I sat out in the sun for a few minutes. That was all it took to get a little extra color (and freckles) to take back home. I did take a little dip in the water to cool off.
After we finished our drinks we went out to DQ for some hot dogs and hot fudge sundae’s. Very good. We went back to the spot and packed up/did some wash to get ready to head back home. We looked back over the pictures from the boat ride yesterday and James made the blog post. I made chicken alfredo for dinner with a side salad. We decided to get up relativly early tomorrow to hit road but neither of us work on Monday so it doesn’t really matter.
Sunday we said goodbye to the Keys for now and packed up the car. We went to a place called Harriette’s Restaurant for breakfast. I had a classic eggs benedict and James had pancakes. It was a small spot but very nice. It seemed like a place that would get busy but we were there early enough that we didn’t have any trouble. They were known for their muffins so we both ordered one to go and brought it home with us.
James drove us through Miami and then I took over for the rest of FL and into GA. In Georgia we ran into an accident on I-95 North. It looked like a pretty beat up motorcycle when we got to the front. With how backed up we were I’m not certain the guy made it out of it. This put us about an hour behind what we thought we were going to be getting home and I ended up trading off earlier than I thought. Once we got out of the traffic we stopped for some food at Arby’s and James got us through the rest of GA and almost all the way through South Carolina. I realized we weren’t going to get home until after 5am and thought maybe we should swap so he could drive as it got later into the night and he preferred to do the drive through DC so I wouldn’t have to. We found a Buck-ee’s and grabbed a snack around 9pm and swapped drivers. I ended up driving til about 1am and we swapped right before Richmond when we needed gas.
The rest of the drive was uneventful. Going through the cities so early in the morning no one was around. Well I don’t think anyone was around, I was sleeping for a little. DC is so bumpy! I thought I was going to get car sick through that area but that was the only spot. We got home at like 5:30am and returned the car.
Overall, we were in FL for 10 days. We drove over 4,000 miles total. Gas prices were a little cheaper in FL than at home from what we were seeing. Some areas we found right around $4 but most places were between $4-$4.50. We slept in 3 different cities and put our feet in the Gulf and the Atlantic. I would say a successful trip.
